Leadership Style

Leadership style refers to the way a “leader” motivates and guides his “followers.” Depending on the situation, and the organization involved, this can range from an “authoritarian” style on one end of the spectrum to a “hands-off” style on the other.

Ten of the most common styles are: Coaching (the manager instructs and directs the employee), Visionary , Servant, Autocratic, Laissez-faire (hands-off), Democratic, Pacesetter, Transformational, Transactional, and Bureaucratic. Each of these styles requires a different relationship with the individuals being supervised and has varying success depending on the organization and the personnel involved.
