Hypertonia is characterized by increased muscle tone which leads to stiffness and difficulties in moving. Hence, it is regarded as synonymous with spasticity and rigidity. This may be due to brain damage, brain tumor, neurodegenerative diseases, and damage to the central nervous system. The treatments include medications such as diazepam and baclofen, along with physiotherapy.
