Purpose

The purpose of this research and assessment is to examine the influence of school climate on students’ mental health, academic performance, and interpersonal relationships within the school setting.

Test Year

The Delaware School Climate Scale (DSCS-S) was first developed in 2007 and has undergone various revisions, with the latest version in 2016.

Administration Method and Scoring

The DSCS-S was administered to students across 20 schools in Hunan province. A total of 3,500 questionnaires were distributed, with 3,380 returned, resulting in a response rate of 96.6%. After screening for valid responses, 3,199 effective questionnaires were retained. Respondents’ ages ranged from 11 to 20 years old (15.06±2.37), with a mix of male and female students from various grade levels.

Reliability and Validity

The internal consistency coefficients of the DSCS-S total scale and its dimensions are as follows:
– DSCS-S Total Scale: 0.922
– Teacher-Student Relationship (师生关系): 0.789
– Student-Student Relationship (生生关系): 0.805
– Activity Participation (活动参与度): 0.769
– Expectation Clarity (期望清晰度): 0.815
– Rule Fairness (规则公平度): 0.819
– Campus Safety (校园安全): 0.859
– Bullying (校园欺负): 0.768

The research strongly indicates that school climate is a significant factor influencing middle school students’ psychological health and academic performance.

– 师生关系 (Teacher-Student Relationship)
– 生生关系 (Student-Student Relationship)
