WHOOPING COUGH

a very contagious bacterial infection which impacts the respiratory tract spanning from the nasopharynx to the bronchioles. It is marked by spasmodic coughing which often terminates with an extended high-pitched whooping inspiration. Complications are inclusive of anoxia, brain hemorrhage, injury to vision and hearing, and seizing. Commonly referred to as pertussis.
