An American psychologist. Tolman earned his doctorate from Harvard University in 1915, studying from Hugo Munsterberg. Following three years of teaching at Northwestern University, he became a faculty member of the University of California, Berkeley, where he stayed for the remainder of his working years. Tolman, joined by with Clark Leonard Hull and B. F. skinner, is recognized as a founder of neobehaviorism, who adhered to the path established by John B. Watson and his theory of behaviorism.
