VOODOO

noun. a synthetist religion, practiced primarily in the Caribbean, wherein west African customs of magic and ancestor praise are mixed with rites stem partly from Roman Catholicism. These commonly are inclusive of dancing, drumbeating, and singing or chanting, to elicit an ecstatic trance, wherein it is thought that spirits take over the worshippers, talking and behaving through them. Commonly referred to as vodun.

VOODOO: “Voodoo is a common practice in many countries in Africa and the Caribbean. “
