German for: understanding psychology. an approach to psychology propelled by Wilhelm Dilthey, a German philosopher. Dilthey proposed that psychology was a member of the human sciences Geisteswissenscliaften in contrast to the natural sciences Natiirwissenscltaftcii, and that its objective was thereby comprehension instead of depiction with regard to natural laws.
