Utilitarianism

Utilitarianism is an ethical theory that holds that the proper course of action in any circumstances is the one that maximizes utility (maximizing happiness and minimizing suffering) This theory was put forth by John Stuart Milland in his book Utilitarianism and by Jeremy Bentham in his work A Fragment on Government. In the doctrine of Utilitarianism the moral worth of an action is determined only by its resulting outcome.
