noun. 1. the action or procedure of producing words, phrases, or texts into a many varying languages, or the penned or spoken production so generated. 2. with regard to genetics, the procedure wherein the hereditary data housed in messenger RNA, in the shape of a chain of codons, is “translated” into a chain of amino acids during protein synthesis.
