THALAMIC TASTE AREA

the region of the thalamus which transmits taste data from the solitary nucleus to the main taste cortex. About one third of its neurons react to taste; others are turned on by touch or temperature arousal of the mouth or even the anticipation of an approaching taste stimulant.

THALAMIC TASTE AREA: “The thalamic taste area seems to be inactive, and almost numb to any stimulus.”
