Taste

Taste is one of our five basic senses. Also known as gustation, it is the sensory experience of a substance that is put in our mouths. Our tongues are coated with taste buds which contain taste receptors cells. These cells react chemically with substances in our mouths to produce the sensation known as taste. Food molecules along with saliva interact with the taste receptor cells which tell us information about the substance. Humans have five recognized taste categories: sweet, bitter, salty, sour, and umani (savory).
