Subjective Validation

Subjective validation, also call personal validation, is a common cognitive bias that causes an individual to consider a statement or another piece of information correct if it has any significance or personal meaning (validating their previous opinion) to them. For instance, a person hears that their favorite recreation has been found to be a great form of physical fitness training. This makes it easier to believe, or want to believe, because it is something you already enjoy doing. For instance, a person enjoys going out dancing, medical evidence then proves that dancing is wonderful for promoting cardiac health. This “validates” the importance of dancing to this person.
