Surroundings generally identified by open terrain and limited habitation; distant from metropolitan areas and urban centers; with an economic system which is typically centered on agriculture, but could instead be dependent on other forms of commercial activities, including logging, mining, fossil fuel and natural gas exploration, or tourism. In environmental psychology, frequently employed as a foundation for evaluating the urban surroundings pertaining to air-pollution concentrations, crowding, and criminal behavior, along with other physical and community issues.
