RIGHTS OF PATIENTS

Rights which are considered inviolable for individuals who have been involuntarily legally committed to any treatment facility. These rights are to have communication with family or other individuals outside the facility; to have possession of personal effects and clothing; to participate in electoral functions like voting; to continue following their religious beliefs; to obtain and retain employment if applicable; to carry out legal activities such as making wills or executing other legal instruments; to obtain education; to marry or enter into other contractual relationships; to keep licenses and permits; to file suit or be sued; to not be unnecessarily restrained.
