Also known as Chinese sage, a perennial shrub in the genus Salvia. Native to both China and Japan, the roots (called dan shen) are highly sought-after in traditional Chinese medicine. May inhibit blood clot formation, and is commonly used to treat cardiovascular problems like stroke or heart attack.
