Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation is a therapeutic intervention that provides information and support to patients and their family in order to better understand and cope with medical conditions and treatments. It has been most commonly used with serious and chronic mental illnesses such as dementia, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and personality disorders among several others. The term psychoeducation has also been used for programs that address serious physical illnesses such as cancer. Research has shown that psychoeducation can be effective in recovery, lower relapse rates, and the general well-being of the patient and their family.
