Pineal Gland

The pineal gland is a small, pinecone shaped gland that is located deep inside the brain. Still somewhat mysterious to biologists, it is highly active in early childhood and appears to function to control development of sexual traits. There is also evidence that it may function with the human immune system to activate resistance to flu and cancer. Following puberty its glandular properties are replaced by connective tissue.
