Phonophobia

Phonophobia, also termed as ligyrophobia or sonophobia, is the irrational fear to loud sounds. It came from the Greek words “phono” which means sound and “phobos” which means “fear”. Phonophobia is an anxiety disorder which is characterized by having an intense desire to flee, excessive sweating, irregular heartbeat, dizziness, and panic attack upon hearing and anticipating loud sounds. Those with this condition may also go through extreme mood swings after being exposed to loud sounds. It must be noted that this is different from hyperacusis which is an oversensitivity to sound as phonophobia is a mental condition.
