Neuroanatomy is the study of the anatomy and organization of the nervous systems of vertebrates, both humans and animals. As vertebrates possess bilateral symmetry (are the same on both sides of their bodies) their nervous system is divided into the internal structure of the brain and the spinal cord, also known as the central nervous system (CNS). Sensory nerves then branch out from the CNS to create the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
