Multicultural Education

Multicultural education is an approach which considers the various histories, mores, language, beliefs, practices, customs, etc. of learners. It aims to remove the barriers to educational opportunities of students from diverse backgrounds as it is based on the principle of educational equity. It is hoped that by increasing a basic understanding of how other people live and think, the strife between cultural groups can be ultimately reduced.

For instance, a teacher may make modifications to accommodate the varied beliefs of her pupils. Also, educators are reviewing their policies so as to make them more inclusive and respectful of individuals’ cultural identities.
