MINI-MENTAL STATE EXAMINATION (MMSE)

is used as part of the diagnosis process for Dementia. The MMSE is used as a primarily initial type assessment of the cognitive status of a patient, not a long-term full mental examination. First devised by U.S. psychiatrists Marshal F. Folstein (1941 – ) and Susan E. Folstein (1944 – ) and Paul R. McHugh in 1975.
