Memory storage in the human brain consists of three stages; storage, encoding, and retrieval. The first stage, storage, is the placement of new information into memory. The second stage, encoding, makes the stored information easier to retrieve through attachment to previously stored information. The final stage is retrieval and it is the action of being able to recall and use previously stored information.
