A “medium” is a person who purports to have psychic abilities: usually in the form of an ability to contact and speak with the dead. Beliefs in this type of ability have existed for millennia but proofs of this type of ability are lacking. In the 19th century there was a strong revival of this belief but most, if not all, of its practitioners were proven to be frauds. A modern manifestation of this are “phone psychics” that claim to be able to provide guidance by supernatural means.
