Letter-Number Sequencing

Letter-number sequencing is a subtest of the WAIS (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale) and the WISC (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children). It is a test that measures an individual’s short-term memory skills in being able to process and re-sequence information. This test places some emphasis on the subject’s command of receptive language due to the need to understand the information that is being transmitted.

For instance, an assessment of verbal working memory requires a client to mentally arrange a random sequence of letters and numbers after hearing it. He should state the numbers in ascending order and the letters in alphabetical order.
