Ketogenic Diet

A ketogenic diet is a low carbohydrate diet that is meant to burn more calories than it adds. This type of diet tries to eliminate simple carbs like sugar, white bread, and pastries and maximize the consumption of proteins (meat, fish, cheese, etc.) and complex carbohydrate such as whole grain bread or pasta. “A ketogenic diet is generally high in fat, low in carbs, and ample in protein. It is primarily medically utilized to treat epilepsy in children and is now one of the popular weight loss regimens. A decreased carbohydrate intake and substituting it with fat puts the body into ketosis (hyperlink), a metabolic state characterized by burning much fat. Other health benefits include decreased sugar levels, improved insulin sensitivity, lower cholesterol levels, slower tumor growth, and reduced symptoms of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

Specifically, some of the main kinds of food which should be eliminated (or lessened) include grains, sugary foods, beans, low-fat products, alcohol, fruits (except berries), and sugar-free foods. On the other hand, those that should be eaten include meat, eggs, fish, cheese, butter, nuts, avocados, healthy oils, and low-carb veggies. For instance, a ketogenic diet meal plan for a day would be having mushroom omelet for breakfast, ham and cheese with nuts for lunch, and meatballs with buttered vegetables for dinner.”
