Individualized Education Program (IEP)

An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a legal document which lays out the specific support needed for a child with special needs’ learning progress. It specifically describes the student’s goals for the school year, current skill, progress tracking, special education services, duration of services, participation in mainstream classrooms, testing adaptations, and statement of transition. Generally, the members of the IEP team include the parent, a general education teacher, a special education teacher, an expert who can interpret the child’s test results, and the child (if he or she is already 16 years old).
