Hedonism refers to a lifestyle choice that favors the pursuit of constant pleasure and self-gratification. As a philosophy, hedonism is believed to have first been expressed by Socrates’ student Aristippus of Cyrene in the 5th century BC. Ethical hedonism expresses the idea that people have the right to do everything within their power to achieve the greatest amount of personal pleasure.
