Glucocorticoids

Glucocorticoids are hormones which regulate sugar and fat use, and decrease inflammation. They are also manufactured as medicines which lessen inflammation and boost the immune system. Such steroid is prescribed to treat inflammation related disease such as asthma, allergies, osteoarthritis, multiple sclerosis, and lupus. The most common kinds of glucocorticoids medications are cortisone (increase joint inflammation), prednisone (treat allergies, asthma, vision problems, and arthritis), and Triamcinolone (treats skin conditions). They are also given to organ transplant recipients so that their immune system will not perceive the new organ as an invader and attack it.
