A follow-up study occurs after research or a treatment has been presented to the participant or patient. It is used to ascertain if the effects of the treatment condition are still present in the participants. For example, a follow up study was conducted on the patients who had received a new type of therapy aimed at treating depression. The participants were tested again in order to see if the therapy was still effective six months after the original study.
