The term fissure (as used in anatomy) refers to the deep grooves, clefts, tears, or furrows that exist on various parts of the human body. It can also refer to a cleft between one body part or organ and another. In the brain a fissure (the indentation that causes the folded appearance) is called a sulcus. Fissures are commonly experienced in the anus and are usually short-term problems and react positively to home treatment.
