Ego-Dystonic (Ego Alien)

Ego-dystonic or “ego alien” pertains to behaviors which are conflicting with one’s ideal self-image, beliefs, or goals. For instance, a committed woman who believes in the principle of loyalty felt guilty after smiling back at a handsome guy who was flirting with her. Her act of entertaining another man’s advances was ego-dystonic.
