CORTISONE

noun. A corticosteroid which is made organically by the adrenal cortex or is man-made. Cortisone is physiologically inactive, but is transformed into cortisol, an active hormone in the liver and some other organs. Cortisone is utilized remedially to regulate illnesses in which there is a lack of corticosteroid.
