Contrast Sensitivity

Contrast sensitivity is the ability to detect differences in visual patterns. Young infants have very poor contrast sensitivity because their visual systems are not yet fully developed. They have difficulty detecting patterns unless they are very obvious and stand out easily. Adult visual systems have high contrast sensitivity in that they can distinguish more complex patterns due to the greater development of the eye.
