Clinical psychologists function in a wide range of activities and settings and practice in the field of clinical psychology. Some of these professionals are in research where they study the assessment, treatment, and etiology of mental illness. Others teach in in colleges, medical schools, or hospitals. Many engage in clinical practice while doing psychological assessment, providing psychotherapy, the development and administration of clinical programs, and forensics.
