CENTERS FOR MEDICARE AND MEDICAID SERVICES

(CMS) a U.S. federal agency under the Health and Human Services department. It is primarily tasked with administering the Medicare and Medicaid program according to standards. It covers three business areas, namely: the Center for Medicare Management, the Center for Medicaid and State Operations, and the Center for Beneficiary Choices. Formerly called Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). Formed in 1977.
