CENTER MEDIAN

n. the largest among the intralaminal nuclei, consisting of hundreds of thousands of neurons and numbering 664,000, more or less. It is located in the thalamus of the brain and communicates exclusively with the basal ganglia. Also called the centromedian nucleus- centrum medianum.

CENTER MEDIAN: “Due to the high neuronal activity and excitable nature of the center median, it is physiologically responsible for functions such as attention and arousal.”
