CATASTROPHIC ILLNESS

n. a severe, lingering illness with a greater likelihood of resulting in the death or long-term disability of a family member. It requires intensive treatment and lengthy therapy, all of which would burden a family in terms of hospitalization expenses and doctors’ fees.

CATASTROPHIC ILLNESS: “With the prognosis not being good, a catastrophic illness is expected to be a prolonged and costly one.”
