CASTE

n. a traditional and stratified system of society typical to Hindu culture. It consists of five main hereditary classes, arranged for ritual purity and endogamous marriage. it is further ranked by class, family, occupation, and economic standing. In order of status, these include brahmins (priests), warriors, merchants, laborers, and outcastes.
