CASSINA

n. A wild, evergreen shrub of the holly variety (Ilex vomitoria). Rich in caffeine and theobromine, it is of medicinal and ceremonial value among Native Americans. Its stems and leaves are brewed into a tea called the black drink. Also called yaupon- yaupon holly.

CASSINA: “Cassina (or yaupon holly) is native to the southeastern part of North America, somewhere in Virginia and in the Carolinas.”
