BURN INJURIES

n. the tissue damage caused by being exposed to ultraviolet radiation, burning fire, or intense heat without flame. Also, refers to the excruciating pain and mental trauma suffered by severe-burn victims. First-degree burns are more superficial than second-degree ones which go beyond the skin layer. Third-degree burns injure deep into the subcutaneous layer, reaching tissues, nerves, and blood vessels.
