BUDDHISM

n. a nontheistic religion which, as a philosophy, is more of a way of life. Founded in India and led by Siddharta Gautama who came to be known as the Buddha or, literally, the awakened one. Centered on the concept of individual consciousness and enlightenment, it follows an eight-fold path to right living until one escapes from the cycle and into a state of nirvana.
