BOGARDUS SOCIAL DISTANCE SCALE

n. a socio-psychological scale which measures a person’s specific attitude towards people of other ethnic groups. The general assumption is that people vary in their openness or willingness to participate in activities involving diverse social groups. Thus, the preferred social distance could be greater or lesser. First proposed by U.S. sociologist Emory Bogardus (1882-1973).
