BINSWANGER’S DISEASE

n. a progressive type of vascular dementia which results in an impairment in memory and cognitive function. It is caused by a demyelination of the subcortical white matter as a result of conditions like high blood pressure and hardening of the arteries. Also called Binswanger’s dementia. First described by German neurologist Otto Ludvig Binswanger (1852-1929).
