BEHAVIORAL STUDY OF OBEDIENCE

n. an experiment which graphically documents how individuals would be willing to obey orders from an authority figure, even if these actions were destructive and conflicted with their own belief. It came as a shock, literally, that 65% of the participants were fully obedient when ordered to deliver painful electric shocks at increasing intensities to others. Also known as Milgram’s Experiment and carried out by Yale psychologist Stanley Milgram in 1961.

BEHAVIORAL STUDY OF OBEDIENCE: “Despite the data gathered from its experimental analysis, the Behavioral Study of Obedience has been deemed by scientists as controversial and unethical, if not psychologically-damaging.”
