BARRIER-FREE ENVIRONMENT

n. an environment designed to be free of obstacles. It is friendly towards people who are physically disabled and cognitively impaired, thus, requiring the use of wheelchairs and prosthetics. Environmental barriers to these include street curbs, narrow sidewalks, and steep stairs, as well as lack of access to elevators, public phones, and rest rooms. See universal design.
