AYAHUASCA

n. refers to a powerful hallucinogenic beverage made from the stems of a tropical South American woody vine, Banisteriopsis caapi. This substance has been used for centuries by indigenous peoples of the Amazon for religious, spiritual, and medicinal purposes. More recently in the United States, it has been used to evoke anomalous experiences. The active ingredients are harmine and harmaline. In smaller doses, these ingredients have hallucinogenic and euphoric effects but in larger doses may cause nausea and vomiting, tinnitus, and collapse, followed by sedation. Also known as caapi.

AYAHUASCA: “A person who ingests the substance ayahuasca, will likely have an hallucinogenic experience.”
