ASSUMED ROLE

a behavioral role adopted by a person who accepts a particular social position or status, with the belief that his or her behavior is expected given the position or status. An example is the sick role, where a patient may act in a more needy way than the illness warrants. Also called role enactment.

ASSUMED ROLE: “Although no roles had been specifically assigned, the person began to take notes and took an assumed role as a secretary. “
