ARBITRARY MATCHING TO SAMPLE

a variation of a matching to sample task in which the correct alternative during the choice phase represents an arbitrary relationship between the stimulus and the choice. For example, after presentation of a blue telephone stimulus as a sample, the correct choice may be to select a large triangle. Also known as symbolic matching to sample.
