ANIMAL MATERNAL DEPRIVATION

refers to the deprivation of maternal influence for an offspring, either via natural circumstances or due to experimental manipulation. This can have differential effects depending on the role the female plays in the species. In monkeys for example, Harry Harlow demonstrated that deprivation could create aggression and insecurity.
