ANIMAL CARE AND USE

Ethical regulations pertaining to the use of animals in research and experimentation. Animals must be treated in the most humane, ethical manner possible when used in research settings. The Animal Welfare Act, passed by Congress in 1966 and most recently amended in 1990 and the Guidelines for the Ethical Conduct in the Care and Use of Animals passed in 1968 and most recently amended in 1996, represent two attempts to ensure that the suffering of animals is minimized when used in research.

ANIMAL CARE AND USE: “The researcher consulted guidelines pertaining to animal care and use prior to trying his new drug on rhesus monkeys. “
